THE FACE BEHIND THE BRAND
It's good to meet you...
I spent years trying to become the kind of woman I thought deserved success. And the strange part is… I didn't even realise I was doing it. I thought I was working on myself. I thought I was becoming more confident, more successful, more healed, more spiritual… But if I'm really honest… A lot of what I called self-development was just self-rejection with better branding. I was constantly editing myself. Too loud? Tone it down. Too opinionated? Be softer. Too ambitious? Don't make anyone uncomfortable. Want to help people? Better become the kind of woman you think people expect a therapist to be.
For years, I genuinely believed there was a version of me that deserved success more than the woman standing in front of the mirror. So I tried to become her. The problem was… I didn't even like her. She wasn't me. She was a character I'd created from other people's expectations. She was who I thought people would trust. Who they'd approve of. Who they'd choose. Meanwhile, the real me was getting quieter and quieter. I wasn't becoming more myself. I was disappearing. I looked at other women and constantly asked, "What do they have that I don't?" "Why does it seem so easy for them?" "Why does everyone else look so sure of themselves?" I thought I was jealous of their success. Looking back, I don't think I was.
I think I was grieving the woman I could have been if I'd trusted myself sooner.
Because underneath all the overthinking, comparison and self-doubt was something much harder to admit. I trusted everyone else's voice more than my own. Coaches. Experts. Social media. Family. Friends. Society. Somewhere along the way, I stopped asking, "What do I want?" …and started asking,"Who should I be?" That is a very lonely place to live.
Because from the outside, it looks like you're doing everything right. You're functioning. You're working hard. You're showing up. But inside, you feel disconnected from yourself. And eventually… I burned out. Not in the glamorous, "girl bossed too hard" kind of way. In the quiet, heartbreaking kind of way where I realised… I couldn't keep auditioning for a life that didn't even feel like mine anymore. That was the moment everything changed.
Because for the first time, I stopped asking, "How do I become a different version of myself?" …and started asking, "Whose version have I been trying to become?" That question changed my life. Because I realised there was never anything wrong with me. I'd simply built my life around a version of myself that wasn't actually mine. I don't believe most women have lost themselves. I think they've spent years becoming who they thought they had to be. And I don't think the answer is another course telling you to fix yourself. Or another list of things you should be doing before 7am.
I think the answer is learning to hear your own voice again. That's the work I do now. Helping women untangle the expectations, beliefs and stories that were never theirs to carry in the first place. Helping them to stop performing. To stop abandoning themselves in the name of self-improvement. Because something extraordinary happens when you stop trying to become the woman you think the world will approve of… and start becoming the woman you actually respect. You don't suddenly become fearless. You don't magically have all the answers. But you do become free.
Free to be ambitious without apologising for it. Free to love luxury without feeling shallow. Free to care about beauty without feeling judged. Free to be spiritual without pretending to be someone you're not. Free to take up space without shrinking to make other people comfortable. Free to stop asking for permission. I think that's what most women are searching for. Not a different person entirely... Just the freedom to finally be the woman they were before the world told them who they should be instead.
